Dear colleagues

little Presentation: I'm Camilo SUAREZ a Colombian student working at the Department of Computational Engineering Sciences at the University of Luxembourg. I'm currently working with Prof. Stéphane P.A. Bordas, head professor in computational mechanics at the university.

Next year the XIV world congress in computational mechanics (WCCM) will held in parallel with the European congress in computational methods (ECCOMAS), the event will take place in Paris. Looking to take advantage of this date, we will be doing a mini symposium there:

BENCHMARKING ADVANCED DISCRETISATION TECHNIQUES: PART I. MESH BURDEN ALLEVIATION WITH APPLICATIONS TO CAD-ANALYSIS TRANSITION, FRACTURE MECHANICS AND HIGHER-ORDER PDES.

The Organizers:

Elena Atroshchenko, Stéphane Bordas, Franz Chouly, Daniel Dias-Da-costa, Jakub Lengiewicz, Sundararajan Natarajan, Timon Rabczuk, Chongmin Song, Satyendra Tomar, Giulio Ventura, Eric Wyart.

The purpose of this symposium is to present current advances in modeling techniques and to share the projections and new ideas regarding the improvement in formulations and the definition of topologies. Nowadays, thanks to the Open source culture, our community is greatly benefited by the motivation of its members who share their problems and achievements openly with no more interest than to improve our knowledge. The goal is to approach our ideas in a more optimal way to the reality we try to describe; supporting more solidly the industrial and technological work, favoring small groups and startups allowing them to access high quality content for free being a source of equity in the capitalist society controlled by the monopoly.

It is very useful for researchers to have a tool that allows them to easily get access certain test cases to evaluate and compare optimally the efficiency of their formulations with respect to the state of the art. According to the above, we plated and presented to you this initiative:

What we want is to generate a collection of Benchmark test cases. The objective is to collect a large number of simulations and / or codes (a number of open source libraries have been chosen but we are open to new suggestions). The information of these simulations will be classified and organized according to the complexity in terms of the geometry and the physical phenomena represented. For each of the cases selected for the collection, a format containing the essential information will be established allowing the researcher to identify, extract and modify in an easy way, simplifying the benchmarking work and saving time avoiding this that we usually call "reinventing the wheel".

to clarify: all information made available to us will be registered with the due author's copyright

The Invitation is addressed to the entire engineering community to share their simulations and make them part of this data bank for computational mechanics research. And also to invite you to be part of this event in person if possible, it will be a great opportunity to share ideas!

For any questions and further information don't hesitate :).

Best Regards
